Contagious

Contagious is a short art video by Rudolf Boogerman presenting an artistic view on how a virus enters into a cell and the viral replication thereafter.
The CryptoArt version of 30 seconds became part of the Genesis collection of MOCA, Museum of Crypto Art, end 2022:

It was one of the first to be minted (published) on the lens-based NFT platform Ephimera in 2020, together with a shortened version of Tangled Trees.

I rarely make an artwork related to big World events, and if I do, I usually wait until enough time has passed to view it from an emotional distance.  Therefore, I surprised myself this time since I didn’t start out consciously with the idea in mind that I was going to make a video related to the Corona virus.  But after playing around indoors with the camcorder for a few days, filming a glass filled with water and mingled with ink, I realised that I actually had filmed something that represented the process of a virus entering a cell, be it in an abstract,  non-scientific way.

Hello Rudolf! I just saw the video and enjoyed it. Yes, the sound does make a difference. Personally what came up to me was a feeling of softness and subtleness. Also, maybe, one of delicateness. It’s also interesting to notice that it can be seen either way with a blank mind or having the image of the virus
When doing the second one it’s like the virus loses the heaviness of the image that’s been created of it by humankind at the moment. Looks like one just sees that it’s “doing its job”, and of course, there is intelligence operating behind it. Otherwise, it couldn’t enter the cell with all its intricacies. So the impression that I got was that what looks beautiful and harmless at one level/plane of existence (the cellular level) can be hazardous at another level (the organism). Yet, as there is intelligence operating behind it, not everything that is deriving from this virus is bad. There’s growth and expansion too, which is already being seen throughout the world.
